چکیده

Previous studies have implicated indole-3glycerol phosphate as an intermediate in the biosynthesis of tryptophan in Escherichia coli (Yanofsky, 1956a, b) and Neurospora crassa (Yanofsky and Rachmeler, 1958; DeMoss, Imai, and Bonner, 1958; Suskind and Jordan, 1959). It has also been established that this compound is converted to tryptophan by the enzyme tryptophan synthetase in both organisms (DeMoss and Bonner, 1959; Crawford and Yanofsky, 1958; Rachmeler, 1960). This enzyme system catalyzes three reactions:

A Genetic Map of the Td Locus of Neurospora Crassa.

URING the past decade, a large number of td mutants have been isolated. These mutants represent alterations of the td locus, which controls the formation of tryptophan synthetase (TSase) in Neurospora crassa. Extensive biochemical and immunological studies have shown that these allelic mutants differ from each other in their ability to form protein (CRM, “crossreacting material”) serologically ...

Gene Interaction in Tryptophan Synthetase Formation.

N a previous study (YANOPSKY 1952) of two biochemically similar tryptophanI requiring mutants of Neurospora crassa it was found that each strain differed from the wild type in that it was unable to carry out the tryptophan synthetase reaction (the coupling of indole and serine to form tryptophan). In both mutants the genetic change which resulted in a requirement for exogenous tryptophan seemed...

An immunological study of mutants of Escherichia coli lacking the enzyme tryptophan synthetase.

Previous studies with mutants of Neurospora crassa lacking the enzyme tryptophan synthetase (indole + L-serine -> L-tryptophan) have shown that certain of these strains form large amounts of a protein which is immunologically cross reacting and hence probably structurally related to the enzyme (Suskind et al., 1955). One mutant strain which, by genetic criteria, was allelic with' the other muta...

An enzyme aggregate in the tryptophan pathway of Neurospora crassa.

reactions specifically involved in tryptophan biosynthesis are under the T?ntrol of four genes in Neurospora crassa (AHMAD and CATCHESIDE 1960). The complexity of the gene-enzyme relationships in this pathway was discovered by AHMAD and CATCHESIDE (1960) and AHMAD, KHALIL, KHAN and MOZMADAR (1964) who demonstrated that lesions at one of these genes, tryp-2, could prevent either the accumulation...

(structural and Functional Complexity at the Tryptophan-1 Locus in Neurospora Crassa.)

HE tryptophan-I ( t r yp I ) locus is located in linkage group I11 in Neurospora crassa. TATUM and BONNER (1944) and BEADLE and TATUM (1945) reported tryp-I mutant 10575, which could utilise either indole or tryptophan. AHMAD and CATCHESIDE (1960) brought forward evidence that a new group of five anthranilic acid mutants were allelic to 10575. The present paper describes complementation studies...
